TitleLetter from R [Raphael] Meldola, City & Guilds of London Institute, Technical College, Finsbury, Leonard Street, City Road, London, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorMeldola; Raphael (1849-1915); British chemist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date17 November 1908
DescriptionLarmor's letter is just what he needed, a frank expression of opinion from Royal Society officials to govern his actions. He agrees that the case should be strong, and one which any Chancellor would find hard to refuse. The evidence will have to be marshalled again and there is practical difficulty caused by the illness of Sir Alexander Pedlar who organised the movement for the British Science Guild. Meldola proposes a special meeting of the Corresponding Society of the B.A. [British Academy] to see if they would come into the field. In a postscript, Meldola responds to Larmor's point about publishing second-class work.
