TitleLetter from William Ridgeway, Flendyshe, Fen Ditton, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorRidgeway; Sir William (1853-1926); Irish classical scholar
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date14 October 1911
DescriptionHe wonders if Larmor saw Lord Curzon's letter in 'The Times', on the proposed abolition of the Imperial Department of Archaeology in India and the compulsory retirement of J.H. [John Hubert] Marshall. Ridgeway states that it is an open secret that it is to save money for the King's durbar. Various learned societies are getting up memorials and he asks if this is within scope of the Royal Society. Ridgeway will ask for Larmor's signature on a memorial for members of the University [of Cambridge] and perhaps for Oxford, if nothing is done there.
