TitleLetter from William Ridgeway, Flendyshe, Fen Ditton, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorRidgeway; Sir William (1853-1926); Irish classical scholar
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date7 August 1922
DescriptionHe believes that Larmor will have reached Portrush and will be 'under the Red Hand of Ulster'. He gives his opinions on the situation in Ireland, including the Belfast Government being able to 'seize miscreants' once free of Sir Hamer Greenwood and Mr. Cope. He believes there is collusion between the British Cabinet and Michael Collins. He relays news from a friend in the South, including the idea that the Free State would co-operate with the North, but he does not set much store in it. He thinks that 'my own dear Anglo-Irish' are suffering in the South, while Dublin is seeing incessant shooting, driving out citizens. He gives news of varous contacts, including cousins and friends, relaying accounts of looting. He is trying to get figures for the number of destitute Protestant refugees.
