TitleLetter from John Perry, 25 Stanley Crescent, Kensington, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorPerry; John (1850-1920); Irish electrical engineer and university professor
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date10 November 1919
DescriptionPerry thinks they must have a hypothesis that may look absurd at first sight, giving an example: 'Imagine the aether to be attracted by the Sun...' He gives values for the density of aether and the velocity of light to consider the deflection of light by the Sun, comparing his equation to [Albert] Einstein's and deriving the same answer. He has checked his calculation and urges Larmor to do so too. He does not think Michelson's result would effect matters, depending upon the density value. He agrees it is absurd, but thinks that Larmor will have to try some absurdities.

With pencil notes by Joseph Larmor.
