DescriptionMontagu has received letters from Folkes and from Mr Cockburn with news of the death of Durham [Derham]. Montagu will follow Folkes' advice to recommend [Thomas] Simpson as Durham’s successor [as master of mathematics at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, known as 'second master' he was assistant to the Mathematics Professor/Chief Master]. Montagu intends to have Cockburn prepare a warrant to sign to that effect. List of mathematical publications is noted on the verso of letter, which also bears the address.
