| Description | He enquires after his brother and niece, not having heard news of them since they left London. William has been to Northampton Assizes to attend two causes for the Duke of Montagu against Lord St. John, both of which were in the Duke's favour. They have been much hurried with furniture. 'Poor Nulty' had a fall against a chair edge, cutting her forehead very deeply. A surgeon was necessary, but there will be no significant scar. They live in retirement, very pretty in summer, but with deep snow in winter. He describes riding: the place lacks variety, although he does not intend to enlarge upon his acquaintance. He asks to present his compliments to the Duke and Duchess and their family, noting that the monument set up by the Duke for his mother in Deen Church has sunk on one side and is coming down. It is very handsome and William would be happy to act to have it repaired on the Duke's command. |
