DescriptionHill conveys a request from the Duke of Richmond that Folkes go to the Duke of Ancaster's auction and buy him some of the stones and marbles with inscriptions. The Duke wishes to stick them in an interior wall he is building, as decoration. He is also interested in antique urns and asks Folkes to bid on any at his discretion. Hill himself is 'tied by the leg every morning at the office' and the Duke does not know who else to send.

NotesLetter is dated Wedesday morning 20 January, but no year is given. 20th January fell on a Wednesday in 1742 the year the 2nd Duke of Ancaster died (29 April 1686-1 January 1742). His death may have precipitated an auction by the new Lord Ancaster, who sought to update the interioir of the family seat, Grimsthorp Castle in Lincolnshire in the same year.
