| Description | Mace asks Folkes to recommend him to the Duke of Richmond [Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond, 2nd Duke of Lennox, 2nd Duke of Aubigny] for the position of Purveyor of the Mews. The salary of £90 per annum would provide for Mace for the remainder of his life and he would be priviliged to be placed in contact with Lord March [the Duke's eldest son, Charles Lennox later 3rd Duke of Richmond] to improve the latter's education. |

| Notes | No year is given in the date on the original letter. The mention in the letter of "Lord March'' seeming to refer to an individual other than the current Duke of Richmond and to a younger man still in education likely dates the letter to after the birth of the 2nd Duke's son in 1735. At birth he assumed this lesser title of his Father's as heir to the Richmond Dukedom. A terminal date of Folkes death in 1754 dates the letter to 1735-1754, likely the 1740s or 50s after Lord March's early infancy. |
