Description | Discusses the loss of papers written by Taylor to criticise [René] Descartes and [Nicolas] Malebranche's physics. Mentions the death of King Louis XIV a few days before [1 September] and the regency by the Duke of Orleans. Describes the young King Louis XV as having infinite merit and spirit and hopeful that the future will be better than the past. Arrangements for the royal funeral and celebrating that the Jesuits are being eclipsed and humiliated. Comments on the ill-health of Malebranche who won't likely make it through the autumn. Comments on the plentiful of his garden, wishing Taylor was there to help eat the peaches and prunes. Sends some friends' regards and his good wishes: "take care Sir and continue to love me, for no one honours you more perfectly than I do". |
