Description | 7, Cavendish Avenue, Cambridge, CB1 4UP I would like to thank you very much for your hospitality and kindness in looking after me and explaining many things to me. The visit to the Queen went very smoothly. They explained to me just what to do, when to bow, when to shake hands etc, and I retained enough presence of mind to do it. Marci came to Buckingham Palace, but stayed in an anteroom and did not see the Queen. I spoke with the Queen mainly about my work and tried to explain to her how interesting it is to do scientific research, and she agreed it must be a fascinating life. I also told her I had a daughter who had studied geology but had given it up to look after her baby. I said it was difficult for a woman who had to choose between her career and her family and there could not be real equality between the sexes. The Queen said that she did not press for equality of the sexes. I hope we shall be able to see you before we go. |
