Completed his medical education (1952); served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, stationed with the Gurkhas (1953-1955); returned to England; Professor of Surgery, University of Cambridge and consultant at Addenbroke hospital(1965-1998); performed the first successful liver transplant in Europe (1968); carried out the world's first lver, heart, and lung transplant with Professor John Wallwork, Papworth Hospital, Cambridge (1986); became professor of surgery in Singapore, following his retirement; died of heart failure.
