OtherInfo | Vincent is frequently confused with the contemporary nonconformist minister of the same name, who was ejected post-Restoration in 1662. One of this Nathaniel Vincent's sermons was not permitted for publication due to its criticism of English court. Through a Jesuit text appearing in England in the 1680s, Vincent was introduced to Confucian philosophy and he translated the texts into English. This coincided with a growing interest, especially within the Society, in sinology. Little is known about his private life. |
