OtherInfoHis appointment as viceroy of Naples by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI was always intended to be a temporary position despite Borghese's wishes. In this role, he implemented measures to protect the population from the plague that had broken out in Marseille in 1720. Additionally, he was noted to be diplomatic in managing the relations to Rome. The family's title, 'Principe di Sulmona' had been created in 1610 for Borghese's grandfather, a nephew of Pope Paul V.
