Date | 9 December 1897 |
Description | Acknowledges the Swiss Minister's letter of 30th November. The Royal Society's letter of 19th July with the ad interim was intended to help secure the object of article 31 of the Acta of the Conference; that the Society should be informed not later than 1 January 1898 what steps, if any, are being taken or are likely to be taken, in the countries whose governments are represented at the Conference, towards establishing an organisation for the purpose of the work of the Catalogue [of Scientific Papers].
The Society has made considerable progress in the elaboration of a scheme, the preparation of which was entrusted to it by the Conference, and hopes early in the coming year to be able to issue such a scheme. Rucker and Foster are directed to suggested that the Swiss Government await the reception of the more complete report and make no reply to the Society until it has had the opportunity to consider the proposals there put forward. |
