| Description | Discusses; the objects of a magnetic survey of a large district, the numbers of stations at which observations are made and the distance between the stations, the instruments which might be employed including the advantages of the Kew-pattern instruments, the corrections which should be made for diurnal variation especially in the case of the declination, and the comparison of instruments.
Notes in particular that if the magnetic survey is to be thoroughly satisfactory it should be planned as an independent piece of work and the question of how the stations are to be distributed and the corrections made, should all be settled before the work is begun. If desired Rucker would be glad to be of assistance to those carrying out the survey.
Once the fundamental survey above contemplated is complete, Rucker hopes that it will be possible to pay some attention to the question of local disturbances. In India these might be of special interest. |
