| Description | The [Malaria] Committee and he are very pleased with their work but are keeping back the blackwater paper until the work is more complete, the other papers are being published at once. They are much interested in the letter Christophers and Stephens sent to Ross about the species and the ditches. Queries what will be the state of their work next March, how much longer they wish to say and asks for a rough estimate of their expenses beyond March.
Memorandum notes the facts recorded in the paper 'The Occurrence of Blackwater Fever in India' do not fully justify the somewhat sweeping conclusions of the Commissioners. Blackwater may be of recent introduction and be of peculiar distribution. Notes it is of great importance that the exact nature of the association be determined. The Commission seems to treat the subject of Blackwater as closed and finally settled but this is far from the case and the Committee desires that their Commissioners would keep an open mind on the subject. If the Commission has satisfied itself that Blackwater is but an expression of malarial infection they should endeavour to ascertain the conditions that convert a comparatively mild disease into a deadly one. |
