| Description | Bruce's letter of 28 August with the two papers referred to and Bruce's letter of the same date to the Assistant Secretary about the reprinting of Major Horrock's paper have reached Geikie's country house. The fact that Malta Fever should be as rife as ever among the civil population and almost extinct in the army and navy is an excellent testimony to the value of the work of the Commission. Geikie read with much interest the report of Bruce's paper in 'The Times' and was glad to see the 'blowing' of the 'R.S.' [Royal Society's] trumpet therein. Geikie thinks the Society has been so modest that unless they take such some step their work is ignored or the credit given to some other body. There will be no objection to Bruce re-printing Horrocks' paper from the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' in the 'Royal Army Medical Journal' and to Bruce using the block to illustrate it. |
