Description | Press cuttings and other printed information concerning the Royal Society and its Fellows. Material gathered largely from Durrant's Press Cuttings service and pasted into this volume by Royal Society staff. The book contains some obituaries and death notices, including: Henry Miers (p.4); Alexander Russell (pp.5-6); Arthur Willey (p.8); and Henry Forster Morley (pp.21-22).
Cuttings also give accounts of the Royal Society's meetings, events and honours. Other content includes scientific contributions to the war effort, throughout; and notices of contemporary scientific developments. Specific topics are: the Soviet Union honouring Isaac Newton's birth (p.1); laboratory synthesis of diamond by J B Hannay, including a co-authored letter by Kathleen Lonsdale (p.20, p.27).
These cuttings are attached to printed labels noting the source journal and are generally date stamped. The spine is labelled 'Jan 1943-March 1943'. |
