Material gathered initially from a press cuttings service, but this ceases at the end of February 1944. Thereafter items are collected and pasted in by Royal Society staff. Cuttings also give accounts of the Royal Society's meetings, events and Fellowship elections. Other content includes scientific contributions to the war effort, throughout, and notices of contemprary scientific developments. Specific topics are: Kathleen Lonsdale on artificial diamond making by J B Hannay (p.60); the retirement of William Stanier (pp.69-72); knighthoods for penicillin reserachers (pp.91-93); Archibald Vivian Hill on India (p.94, p.116, pp.139-140, p.145); vote on women Fellows of the Royal Society (pp.151-159, p.166).
These cuttings are attached to printed labels noting the source journal and are generally date stamped. From February, cuttings are attributed to the source newspaper and dated in manuscript. The front board is labelled 'Jan-Dec 1944'. |
