TitleLetter from E J [Edwin John] Butler, Woodlands, Clapham, Bedford, to [Harry Ralph] Ricardo
CreatorButler; Edwin John (1874-1943); Irish plant pathologist
RecipientRicardo; Sir Harry Ralph (1885-1974); British mechanical engineer
Date25 April 1941
DescriptionRicardo's letter has followed Butler, where he will remain until Autumn. He agrees that they should not hold Royal Society Club dinners, returnign subscriptions for the year. He does not suppose any would like to dine under present conditions, despite 'the serenity of mind supposed to be possessed by scientific men'. Finding another location other than the Athenaeum would also reduce cheerfulness. Butler's health will prevent him playng an active part, and Ricardo may wish to replace him.
