Title | Letter from C V [Charles Vernon] Boys, St Marybourne, Andover, to [Vernon Herbert] Blackman |
Creator | Boys; Sir Charles Vernon (1855-1944); British physicist and inventor |
Recipient | Blackman; Vernon Herbert (1872-1967); British cytologist and plant physiologist |
Date | 28 November 1939 |
Description | He thinks that mention should be made of the gift of the casket in the [Royal Society Club] report, although it is in the minutes. Boys thinks he deeply offended Sir Robert Robertson by repeating the Quex story from his 'Weeds' book and Robertson took it as a personal insult. Boys had heard misgivings from all quarters on his plan to remove tree stumps using saltpetre and burning. He had prepared a test on a willow stump but the blackout has made it impossible. Boys cannot get to London during wartime and he thinks he may not be able to attend anymore. His near blindness and deafness has made the dinners less attractive and the time will come when Blackman will have to remove his name. |
