DescriptionHe wishes to go down to Devonshire and therefore cannot attend the [Royal Society] Club. He does not expect Douglas Galton to be there. It would be well to tell the head man before dinner not to deviate from routine without the Treasurer's order. He will write to Willis if Scott prefers it. There was a row last year, 'when Old George used strong language but it was not half as monstrous as the conspiracy of Galton & Quain'. He has told Taylor & Francis to have some proofs of the rules as revised to send to the President and others so that no obstruction will be made, which they shall have if Galton is there. The ten absentees have to dine on the 21st, or there will be a contest if Galton is present. Richards apologises for not being there, explaining that his brother is unwell and he must see him.
