TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Senator H M Metzenbaum, 342 Russell Senate Office Building, Washington DC
Date6 February 1979
DescriptionGold is sending a copy of a letter concerning the D.o.E. response to the request to look into the novel views concerning deep methane. Gold is very disappointed that their attitude is negative, and quite uninformed.

States the report seems to stress the probability that gas will be plentiful anyway, and one wonders to what extent this is echoing the industry position that any "excessive" discoveries will hold the price down. Surely it is in the interest of the nation to discover enough gas so that all stationary fuel use can be gas, making the North American oil sufficient to cover all transportation needs. This is also the best solution from the environmental viewpoint.

Gold is also sending some of the material concerning the new views they have developed on deep abiogenic methane.
