TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr Sergio Segre, Comitato Nazionale per l'Energia Nucleare, Via Enrico Fermi, C.P. 65, 00044 Frascati (Roma), Italy
Date13 February 1979
DescriptionThanks him for his letter and the interest in the hydrocarbon outgassing story. Gold is enclosing some material.

Gold has heard, from Professor Amaldi, of the phenomena now being reported in Italy. It is quite possible that they are related to earthquake activity. Luminous phenomena and booming sounds, and bubbles in the sea have in the past been reported frequently, especially in Southern Italy, and have shown a strange correlation with earthquakes.

Asks if any more information on the phenomena becomes available, Gold would be glad to hear of them, and perhaps he could judge whether they are suggestive of an impending quake. Perhaps Segre could suggest that the appropriate government department get in touch with Gold. It might be worthwhile being informed, even if it is not possible to do much about it.
