Wonders if carbon at depth is either in non-homogeneous surroundings, so that some storage areas favour the oxidized and other areas the non-oxidized form; or whether the pathways to the surface provided different conditions of temperature, pressure, oxygen availablitity to shift the equilibrium differently in different areas. It the latter is the case then volcanoes with highest temperture at low pressure would certainly favour CO2. |
