'The Vice-chancellor recognises that there is some doubt whether a nomination duly made under Statute A, 1,2 can be withdrawn after the day appointed as the day of nominationl He announces, therefore, that the eledction, of which notice has been given, will be held.
In view, however, of Pandit Nehru's decision, and on the assumption that his supporters will respect his expressed wishes not to enter into any contest, the Vice-Chancellor considers that it is unnecessary for the period of voting to be so long as had been contemplated, and he announces thte following revised procedure, which replaces in all respects that published in his notice of 31 October 1950 ('Report' p 293)
The election will be held in the Senate-House from 2 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on 10 November 1950. The electors are the members of the Senate, and, in accordance with Statute, voting will be in person. Members of the Senate are required by Ordinance to wear the academical dress appropriate to their respective degrees.
At the election an Esquire Bedell will call 'Ad scrutinium pro electione Cancellarii.' The Vice-chancellor and Proctors stand in scrutiny, and the Proctors will receive voting cards. No person who is not a member of the Senate will be admitted to the Senate-House during the election.
At 2.30 p.m. an Esquire Bedell will call 'Cestum est a scrutinio' and the Senior Proctor will announce the name of the person elected in the following form;
'Ego A.B. Senio Procurator huius Academiae, electum a Vobis pronuntio C.D. in Cancellarium Huius Adacemia.'
Neither the names of the persons who have voted nor the number of votes cast will be published. |
