TitleLetter from [William George] Armstrong, Cragside, Rothbury, to [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, 66 Victoria [Street], London, S.W
CreatorArmstrong; William George (1810 - 1900); Baron Armstrong of Cragside; armaments manufacturer and industrialist
Date21 June 1891
DescriptionReferring to an enclosed diagram [enclosure not present], states that by placing magnets diagonally as shown in the diagram, the diameter of each may be greatly increased without cutting down the standards. Asks Swinton if he has any objections and what would be the increase of power with wire of no12 guage the same as now used. States he will not object to a small dimension of thickness in the wire, to no13, as he is sure the coils can never be used with currents as large as Swinton contemplated except for a few records at a time, without prohibitive combustion points.
