Date25 February 1909
DescriptionInforms he found out that [Arthur William] Rucker had thought Swinton was the type of person who does 'no real scientific work after they put in (as you tell me) like himself'. States he told Rucker straight at tea, unfortunately too late for the present year's fellowship, that this was not so, assuring him of knowing Swinton intimately. Informs that Rucker apologised and that he has also spoken to Sir [David] Gill, whom he later overheard having 'having a go' at Rucker. Comments 'I have been completely taken by surprise by Rucker. I think he behaved badly & I shall not forget it. A man has no business to demand after people for his own ends'.
