TitleLetter from [William George] Armstrong, Cragside, Rothbury, to [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, 66 Victoria [Street], London, S.W
CreatorArmstrong; William George (1810 - 1900); Baron Armstrong of Cragside; armaments manufacturer and industrialist
Date21 June 1892
DescriptionHe is willing to pay for the 10 inch spark coil Swinton borrowed from [Alfred] Apps and take out the amount in future amateur services such as ones Swinton has already rendered in connection with his electrical experiments. Wishes to utilise his apparatus for the purpose of high frequency alternating effects, by employing Leyden Jar oscillations in lieu of a mechanical alternator. Refers to two articles by Elihu Thompson in the Electrical Review which apply to this subject but Thompson uses a mechanical alteration & transformer, which he wants to avoid. Refers to [Nikola] Tesla's experiments which also bear upon it. Asks Swinton to find out what Thompson is doing now, stating that based on last communication, it appears he is likely to attain great results by very simple means.
