Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to L. B. Atkinson [Esquire] |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 11 June 1927 |
Description | Acknowledges receipt of a previous letter. Informs he was unable to attend Baird's lecture at the Physical Society Exhibition on 6 June due to illness. Asks Atkinson for an account of the lecture and whether Baird showed anything in the way of television, or merely photographs like he did at the lecture he gave in Conduit Street. Does not believe anything useful can cme out of Baird's purely mechanical method. Gathers that Baird has shown to individuals specimens of what were really television, but of a very crude kind; but photographs of such results which may have been exposed for seconds, or minutes, convey not proper idea of what is possible where exposures must not be more than one-tenth of a second, or even less. Unsure where to see Knowledge, apart from at the British Museum. Seeks a publication in which the author had an arrangement with oscillating mirrors some time after 1880. |
