Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to Sir Gregory Foster |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 31 October 1927 |
Description | Informs that since last writing to him he has spoken to Mr W. H. Mordey. It is clear to him that Foster did not know that the Committee has carefully considered and formally settled the matter of the replica. Explains that Gregory is in error in thinking he arranged with Orpen to paint a single portrait of [John Ambrose] Fleming for whatever sum the fund itself produced. When the portrait was completed Orpen thought he has completed his task and it was for that reason that the meeting in March was held, which is why he offered to pay for the replica himself. |
