TitleLetter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to Sir William [Henry] Bragg, F. R. S.
CreatorSwinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer
Date18 August 1928
DescriptionEncloses a copy of a letter he just received from [George William Osborn] Howe, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Glasgow University, detailing the circumstances under which the letter was written [enclosure not present]. Informs that a short time ago Sir Richard Gregory told him that Baird told him he was showing television at the B. A. at Glasgow under the auspices of Professor Howe. After this he contacted Howe at Gregory's suggestion to ask him to verify this and its meaning, and pointed out that Baird and his company are carrying on a scandalous ramp on the Stock Exchange and fleecing the ignorant public, and that anyone helping with advertising the business is likely to get into serious trouble as a consequence. Comments on the penultimate paragraph of Howe's reply, in which he thinks that someone holding an authoritative position in the Association should make it clear to Baird that the show is purely scientific and nothing savouring business should be introduced. Adds that he is sending this letter on Sir Richard Gregory's suggestion.
