Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to [Lieutenant colonel] Kenelm Edgcumbe |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 10 May 1929 |
Description | Referring to their previous conversation, encloses a copy of the letter that he wrote to the Electrician on the incandescent lamp jubilee, published in the journal [enclosure not present]. Thinks that before the Council of the Institution come to any decision on the matter, his letter in the Electrician should be brought to their notice. Mentions having seen in the Abstract of Patents suspended to the Second Volume of "Electrical Illumination" by James Dredge, published in the office of Engineering 1885, that in 1878 Mr. St. George Lane Fox patented an incandescent lamp with a filament formed of an alloy of platinum and iridium, and from communications to the Electrical Times, it is stated that this lamp was in a glass vessel, hermetically sealed, and may be filled with nitrogen. Seeks the patent number as it was not provided in the communication. |
