Title | Letter from [Percy Fitzpatrick] Rowell, Secretary, The Institution of Electrical Engineers, Savoy Place, Victoria Embankment, London, W. C. 2., to [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, F. R. S., 40 Chester Square, S. W. 1. |
Creator | Rowell; Percy Fitzpatrick (1874-1940); Secretary of the Institution of Electrical Engineers |
Date | 22 March 1927 |
Description | Acknowledges Swinton's letter in relation to the paintings for the Lecture Theatre. Identifies a difficulty about a portrait of [William] Gilbert, in that it would have to be purely imaginary, as he is unaware of a genuine one in existence, other than one by Acland Hunt, where he is depicted demonstrating his experiments to Queen Elizabeth I and her Court, situated in the Town Hall of Colchester. Informs that Mr Atkinson had told him of an offer of another portrait coming fairly soon but he did not say from whom. Suspects it might be from Sir George Sutton or Sir Tom Callender. Believes there is sufficient material available for a portrait of [Charles] Wheatstone, referring to an excellent photograph in his possesion. |
