1) Thornton Howard Bridgewater, television engineer File of correspondence pertaining to Thornton Howard Bridgewater's research for his biographical writings on Swinton, predominantly comprising letters from Bridgewater to Major-General Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame, organising the borrowing of documents from the Kimmerghame archives, collating information, including copies of personal documents relating to Swinton and his family, copies of photographs from Swinton's photographic archive [stored in OS box on Bay 032], and letters between Bridgewater and various institutions, dating (1969-2012). Various drafts of his biographical account of Swinton are included, as well as the final monography published by the Royal Television Society. Also included are letters documenting Bridgewater's efforts to have a plaque raised at 9 Albyn Place, Edinburgh, to commemorate Swinton's birth. Pamphlets and photographs from the unveiling celebration form part of this. Includes letters from Anthony Bridgewater, the Thronton Howard Bridgewater's son, reporting on the death of his father.
2) Ian Mowatt, Lecturer in Communication studies, Glasgow College of Technology Letters from Mowatt to Major-General Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame, lists of items borrowed from the Swinton family archive, and copies of his lecture delivered to the Royal Television Society. Thornton Bridgewater sought Mowatt's asssistance with his endeavours. Dated between 1978 and 1981.
3) L. J. Ramsay Letters from Ramsay to Major-General Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame, dated 1971-1981, in relation to Ramsay's article on Swinton, published in "Radiography", December 1980, with a copy of the article appended. Also included is a reprint of Ramsay's article "Bullet Wounds and X-Rays in Britain's Little Wars', from September 1982.
4) Lectures honouring Alan Archibald Campbell Swinton File of letters sent to Major-General Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame inviting him to commemorative lectures held by The Royal Television Society and The Institution of Electrical Engineers: Letters of invitation sent by the Royal Television Society inviting Major-General Sir John Swinton to their annual Socttish Centre Alan Campbell Swinton Lecture, with the inaugural lecture taking place in 1985. The letters date between 1985 and 1996. Includes a copy of the RTS Magazine "Television", featuring a version of Andew Neil's speech given at the 1995 Alan Campbell Swinton Lecture. Letters of invitation to an exhibiton "A New Kind of Vision-The Discovery of X-Rays" and an evening lecture following it, organised by the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
5) File of material created in commemoration of Swinton, including letters, press cuttings, printed material, research copies of published and private material and drafted articles. Includes a copy of The Commission from the Marquis of Argyll to Auchnabreck, 1642 [rolled item]. |
