DescriptionVolume combining press cuttings of articles and letters to the press, authored by Alan Archibald Campbell Swinton, as well numerous reviews of Swinton's publication "The Principles and Practice of Electric Lighting" from a variety of newspapers and journals, and letters from various individuals congratulating and thanking Swinton for sending them a copy. These individuals include: Mary S Riddle, dated 27 March; William Thomson, dated 21 April 1884; Fleeming Jenkin, dated 27 March 1884; William Crookes, dated 6 April 1884; C. Mitchell, dated 27 March 1884; William [George] Armstrong, dated 19 March 1886, and can be found pasted amogst the reviews. Also included is press coverage of Swinton's exhibition of his electrical discharge photographs.

Interspersed throughout are items such as Swinton's certificate of honourable mention of the Amateur Photographic Association, dated 14 July 1880; Swintons' personal Diploma of Honour for Excellence in Photography, awarded to him for an exhibition held in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in November 1883; thanks from the Royal Society, signed by Rayleigh, for exhibiting at the Conversazione.

The articles and letters to the press authored by Swinton cover subjects such as photography & amateur photography, including discussion of advances, methods, and apparatus. Numerous articles pertaining to electric lighting, including on war ships appear, as well as those on wireless telegraphy and optics.
