DescriptionReproduction of Swinton's X-Ray photograph of his own hand taken in 1896. The photograph is inscribed with the following: 'X-Ray photograph by Swinton of his own hand 1896-the first to be published in this country. Reproduced from Swinton's own silde.' The photograph was taken according to the method of Wilhelm Röntgen, on an ordinary photographic dry plate enclosed in a slide, exposed to rays of a Crookes vacuum tube, for five mintues.

The associated slide can be found in the glass plate negative series.
