Description | Griffin is presented with male and female platypus specimens by the Norfolk and Norwich Museums. He dissects the specimens and records his observations. He notes that his observations are at odds with those published in volume 92 of the Philosophical Transactions by Everard Home. Includes four separate pages of watercolour figures.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 3 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'Some remarks on the internal structure of the platypus anatinus (Ornithorhynchus paradoxus, Blum.)'.
A version of this paper was published by Griffin in the correspondence pages of The Lancet: Geo, John, and Richard Griffin. 'THE ROYAL SOCIETY—ANATOMY OF THE DUCK-BILLED PLATYPUS.—(PLATYPUS ANATINUS.).' The Lancet, volume 48, number 1194 (1846), pp. 78-79. Preceding the paper is correspondence from Griffin voicing complaint about the Royal Society declining to publish the paper. |
