Description | In good health after a slow but prosperous journey - Tripoli has been ingratiating himself with the Prince Regent by giving him the ruins of Lelida and escorting Captain Smith of the Navy to visit the town "where tradition declared that all living creatures had been by the anger of God transformed to stone" as well as promoting an expedition to Timbuctoo [Timbuktu] which Lord Bathurst is prepared to support - has recommended Richie [Joseph Ritchie]. Has heard from Biot in Edinburgh. Describes Professor Leslie's discovery, which he does not understand. Has not heard from Sir E [Everard] Home for a week. |
