Has heard from Lyon that the plundering expedition from Fazzan has been given up, a new Bey of Murzurk is to be appointed who it is hoped will resume ordinary commerce, Richie was well when the letter was sent on 19 October. Discusses giving up of Bencoolen [Bengkulu, Sumatra, Indonesia] and ceding of Java to the Dutch. Discusses vast snake in American waters. Discusses low temperature in his garden and effect on his plants. Gilbert has delayed his visit to Paris until after the General Election. Discusses severe illness of George IV. Lady Banks has two vases which she means to present to Mlle Vaucelle - M Cuvier's daughter in law who has given her a beautiful ink stand. |
