| Description | Advises Blagden that "Great Britain is not a place for you, nor for me, to end our days in" and "we should seek our principal enjoyments out of it". Discusses financial considerations. Does not think Blagden's scheme to purchase a farm in America is a good one, at least not until he knows the country better. Thinks that Blagden and he will end their days in America but thinks it would be better to go there as travellers rather than settlers (as Priestley did). Advises Blagden not to go to America until peace is restored in both Europe and America. Advises Blagden to travel to Germany and to have Munich as his headquarters and gives details of expenses. Thinks Blagden would have no problem obtaining official leave from the War Office to depart from England giving the state of his health as a pretext. Plans to remain at Munich until next Autumn. Thanks Blagden for his interest on his behalf, also thanks him on behalf of his daughter. Hopes Blagden's journey to Bath will benefit his health. |
