DescriptionDraft typescript letter with manuscript corrections in pencil. Written to await Scott's arrival at Lyttelton and congratulating him men on their return. The letter hopes the crew of the 'Discovery' are all in good health. Explains that £500 credit has been advanced to SCott at the Bank of New Zealand in Christchurch for payments to the men and officers.

Scott is instructed to provide a costing for the refitting and provisioning of the 'Discovery' for the return voyage as soon as possible. A supply of coal will be prepared at the Falkland Islands. In the event of the abandonment of the 'Discovery', the expedition records, collections and instruments will be brought home in the relief ships or by mail steamer. Scott should telegraph if further aid is required. The magnetic instruments will be compared at the Christchurch Observatory. The letter also lists the observatories where magnetic observations were made on term days at the same time as those taken during the Expedition.
