Title | Letter from the Secretaries of the Royal Society [Michael Foster and Joseph Larmor], to the Chairman of the Meteorological Council [Sir Richard Strachey] |
Creator | Foster; Sir; Michael (1836-1907); British physiologist and politician |
Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Recipient | Strachey; Sir; Richard (1817-1908) |
Date | 1 March 1904 |
Description | Acknowledging the Meteorological Council's letter dated 17 February [see CD/117/2]. The Royal Society Council requests clarification of their offer to 'facilitate' the work. The Society had hoped that the Meteorological Council, as the British offical body in charge of meteorological work, would undertake the reduction of the Antarctic Expedition data alongside a consultative committee appointed by the Royal Society. Asks whether this plan would be feasible.
As the total cost of publication is likely to be high, the Society would require a plan in place for this before adopting the plan, to ensure that the work will be available for public use once completed. |
