DescriptionThree figures, labelled figures 1-3, two of which show Henry de Saumarez's marine surveyor and its use: a bifurcated wooden stick with two paddles at one end and a rope attached to hooks at the other end, which can be attached to ships by the rope so that the paddles drag in the water. Figure one shows an additional instrument which consists of four paddles in a cross formation and can be attached to a boat by a stick or rope such that the paddles sit in the water under the boat.
