' The Minutes of the Committee were read.

In consequence of the Resolution of the Council of the 8th Instant the President proposed to take into consideration the proper Instruments to be employed in the Expeditions for the Northwest passage.

The following Instruments were accordingly suggested viz.
A Variation Compass by Dollond with a Telescope sufficient for easily seeing the Pole Star by Day, and capable of viewing the Zenith. One for each Expedition
Two of Laplace's Manometrs in each Expedition
Four Reflecting Compasses by Captain Kator, made by Jones
One of Bonguer's Logs
Two Magnetic Needles
Two Dipping Needles
Four Marine Barometers
Four portable Barometers
Spirit and Mercuraial Thermometers
Six's self-registering Thermometers
Astrolabes
Two of Wollaston's Dip-Sectors
Two Apparatus for bringing Substances from the bottom of the Sea
Chronometers
Proper Books ruled and headed for Memoranda

And it was Resolved, that they be referred to the Council of the Royal Society

Captain Kater then proceeded to read to the Committee his Experiments on the Pendulum, and also a paper on the length of the French Metre estimated in parts of the English Standard, and both these papers are ordered to be read before the Society.

Captain Kater delivered his pendulum and the two Metres into Mr Lee's hands. '
