TitleMinutes of a meeting of the Optical Glass Committee
Date18 December 1828
DescriptionPresent at the meeting: Davies Gilbert in the chair; Mr Baily; Captain Beaufort; Mr Dollond; Mr Faraqday; Captain Kater; Mr Pepys; Mr Roget; Mr South; Mr Sabine; Dr Young; Mr Warburton

' Minutes of the last meeting were read and also the resolutions of the Council of the 11th instant by which it was referred to this Committee to examine certain specimens of glass sent by Mr Bontemps.

Mr Dollond reported that he had examined these specimens and finds that the largest rise of 8 inches diameter is extremely bad, and in his opinion very improper for the object of a Telescope: and that the smallest rise of 6 inches diameter is not quite so imperfect as the longest, but in his opinion of little value: He also stated that on closely examining the polished specimen submitted to the Committee it proved so defective as not to be worth while working.

Resolved, That Mr Dollond's report be approved, and adopted as the opinion of this Committee. '
