1. Terms or Reference
At a meeting of the British National Committee for Geology held on the 18 December 1963 it was resolved - that it be a recommendation to Council that ..... a subcommittee consisting of Professor J H Taylor (Convenor), Dr M N Hill, Dr A S Laughton, and Dr D Taylor-Smith, be appointed to (i) make recommendations to the Organizing Committee of the International Geological Congress (to be held in New Delhi in December 1964) regarding the organization of a Symposium on the results of the International Indian Ocean Expedition, to be held during the Congress, and in particular to recommend papers by British authors, and (ii) make recommendations to Council on the allocation of funds to assist UK participants to attend the Symposium in consultation with the Subcommittee recommended to be appointed to attend the Congress.

It was agreed to submit the following topics to the Organizing Secretary:
1. Crustal desplacement at the northern end of the Carlsberg Ridge
2. Evidence for transverse fault across CArlsberg Ridge
3. Basalts of the Carlsberg Ridge
5. Crustal Structure of the continental margin of East Africa and the Somali Basin.
6. Amirantes Trench
7. Rocks of the Seychelles - their age, magnetic properties and palaeomagnetism
8. Structure of Seychelles Bank
9. Sedimentation in the Somali Basin
10. Gravity in the Arabian Sea
11. Heat flow in the Arabian Sea and in the Red Sea in relation to crustal movement.
12. Non-magnetic seamount south-east of Socotra
13. Post Cretaceous history of the African-Arabian continental margin.
14. Geophysical Study of the John Murray Ridge
15. Dolomitisation of carbonate sediments in the Persian Gulf.
16. Geology of the Gulf of Oman.
17. Carbonate sedimentation on the Seychelles Bank.
18. Recent volcanicity on the South Arabian coast and Southern Red Sea.
