Matters discussed:
1. Membership and terms of reference
The Chairman reported that, as a result of a communication from the Foreign Secretary of the United States National Academy of Sciences (NGL/8 (64) regarding the VII International Congress of the International Association for Quaternary Research to be held in Colorado in August/September 1965, the British National Committee for Geology and Biology had recommended an ad hoc Subcommittee be appointed to consider UK participation in the Congress, the Subcommittee to consist of Professor H Godwin, Chairman, Professor F W Shotton and one other to be nominated by the Chairman.

The terms of reference of the Subcommittee were agreed as follows:
1. Tio nominate a delegate to represent the United Kingdom at the General Assembly of INQUA (International Association for Quaternary Research) to be held during the Congress
2. To recommend a sum to be allocated for travel grants to assist UK participants to attend the INQUA Congress
3. To consider applications for travel grants and recommend the allocation of individual grants.

It was noted that six UK scientists would be offered Congress awards of 400 dollars each.

SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS TO BRITISH NATINAL COMMITTEES OF BIOLOGY AND gEOLOGY

Minute 2: That Professor F W Shotton, FRS be nominaated as the UK delegate to the General Assembly of the International Associatin of Quaternary Research to be held during the VII INQUA Congress i Colorado, August/September 1965, and that the Royal Society should be the adhering body of the UK to the International Association of Quaterenary Research.

Minute 3 (1): That grants totalling £450 be made for the INQUA Congress as follows: I G Jardine £100, B Seddon £100, R G West £50, H L Linton £150, G A L Johnson £50 and (ii) that it be a recommendation to the Travelling Expenses Committee that R G West be made a further grant of £150 towards the expenses of visits in North America not connected with the INQUA Congress.

Minute 4: That a sum of £450 be allocated as set out in item 3(i) of these minutes, and that a further £150 be authorized as a reserve pending the receipt of any further deserving applications, such applications to be submitted not latere than 31 March 1965.
