Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed.
The committee were informed by Mr De La Rue of the meeting of the Committee of the Royal Astronomical Society appointed for the same purpose, which had recommended the occuption of three stations, at Cadiz, Oran and Sicily. The Astronomer Royal also suggested Gibralter, and that parties going east of Oran should travel separately.
Resolved; the President of the Royal Society, the President of the Astronomical Society and the Astronomer Royal to be a Committee for the purpose of applying to the Treasury or the Admiralty for government support; and also to communicate with the French Government and the English Steam Boat Companies for what they could provide for transport for the parties of observers.
Resolved; That the President of the Astronomical Society be requested to ascertain the names of gentlemen who would be willing to undertake certain specific observations in connexion with the contemplated expedition. |
