Applications and testimonials were read, for posts to the Transit of Venus Expedition to Rodriguez, and the following appointed; Dr Isaac Bayley Balfour, Mr George Gulliver, and Mr Henry H Slater BA as Naturalists at a salary of £200. Dr Balfour to be responsible for Geology and Botany; Mr Gulliver for recent Zoology; Mr Slater for exploration of caves and collection of fossil remains.

£25 to be allowed to all three and Mr Eaton for collecting materials.

Naturalists for Rodriguez to be ready to leave England by 8 June 1874.

Naturalists for Kerguelen Island to leave by 5 July. 1874
